Yearly Vaccinations – Influenza and Pneumonia

All patients over 65 years old or suffering from diabetes, ischaemic heart disease, hypertension and any long term condition would be advised to have information regarding influenza and pneumonia vaccination.

Travel Immunisations

Our practice nurses offer full and up to date information on the important question of prevention of diseases whilst abroad and is able to provide immunisations and medications as needed.

Please contact the surgery to discuss your travel plans, preferably eight weeks before your departure.

Testicular Examination

Testicular cancer is rare, but any unusual swellings should be seen by the doctor. We recommend that all men should regularly examine themselves. If you are not sure how to do this, the doctor will be happy to instruct you.

Smoking Cessation

Anyone wishing to stop smoking can make an appointment with the Health Care Assistant or Practice Nurse for advice and support. 

Non-NHS Services

Certain services provided by the doctor are not covered by the NHS and may be subject to a fee. Such services include sick notes for employers or insurance companies, examinations for employers, HGV or PS examinations, medical reports, examinations for sport and passport forms.

Health Screening

Most times that you want to see the doctor it is because you have some symptoms that suggest there may be a problem. However, there are some diseases and conditions that are worth looking for before symptoms develop. This is called screening. 

Examples of such conditions include diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. These may be detected by simple measurements and tests. Our practice nurses offer a “well person” service where these tests are available along with other health advice.

Diabetic Clinic

Diabetic reviews are done by the Practice Nurse.

Contraception

A full range of contraceptive advice and services are available. Please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse should you wish to discuss contraception.

Childhood Surveillance & Immunisation

Six-week checks are done at the surgery, other relevant checks, 7 months and 2 years are by appointment with the Health Visitor at the relevant ‘Drop-in Centres’ locally, Batley, Dewsbury, and Cleckheaton.

Should you have any concerns regarding immunisations the doctor will be happy to discuss this, but there are few occasions that immunisation is not recommended.
